A 325% increase in traffic? No problem for CATSA and its YXS team
During the 2015 Canada Winter Games held in March 2015, Prince George, BC, welcomed 2,400 athletes, 1,000 coaches and officials, 4,500 volunteers, hundreds of media and thousands of visitors. CATSA’s contribution to the success of the event: seamless security screening for thousands of passengers as they said goodbye to beautiful Northern BC.
On a typical busy day at Prince George Airport (YXS), there are 20 departing flights, 1,200 passengers and 450 checked bags. During the Games turnaround weekend and on closing day, that traffic increased by 325%!
Planning for successful screening operations started well in advance and brought together CATSA, G4S, the screening contractor in the Pacific region, Transport Canada, the Prince George Airport Authority, the Canada Winter Games Committee, and air carriers.
CATSA’s YXS Team was made up of 50 motivated G4S screening officers and staff, including a contingent of 10 officers from Vancouver (YVR), who at crunch time, rolled up their sleeves and provided first class service to thousands of travellers returning home after the Games.
CATSA congratulates everyone involved in making this a wonderful experience for the athletes and the community. It was a pleasure and honor to participate in the planning and execution of this event.
