Flying this spring break?
This spring, whether you’re flying to escape the winter or to embrace it, we have tips to help you breeze through security.
Avoid getting hangry by bringing some snacks in your carry-on! Solid food items such as sandwiches, apples and granola bars are permitted on the plane. If your destination is outside of Canada, any food not consumed will be subject to the regulations of the country you are visiting. Pro tip: Bring a personal water bottle or travel mug that you can fill once you pass through security.
Get into gear
If you’re travelling with golf clubs, hockey sticks, surfboards or snowboards, you are already on the right track for an amazing trip. However, be sure to pack these, and all other oversized sporting goods, in your checked baggage. For questions about checked baggage restrictions (e.g. weight, dimensions) and charges for excess baggage, contact your airline directly.
Don't feel the burn
Bring your sunscreen to avoid burns (and awkward tan lines) but be sure it’s in a container of 100 ml or less if it’s in your carry-on. Otherwise, all liquids, aerosols and gels over 100 ml must be packed in your checked baggage or you’ll have to leave them behind. Check out the rules and restrictions before you pack.
Put it in the bag
If you score some deals at the duty-free store on your way back, remember that if you are passing through a connecting airport in Canada, all duty-free liquids, aerosols and gels in your carry-on (e.g. alcohol, perfume) are subject to screening and must be properly sealed in an official security bag with an itemized receipt.
Stay together like birds of a feather
Travelling with your flock? Be sure to look for our Family/Special Needs lanes. They are designed to accommodate larger items like strollers, car seats and wheelchairs, and are available at most airports.
There's an app for all that
Did you know we have an app full of information to help prepare you for your trip? It allows you to create travel checklists, determine if items are allowed to fly and check current wait times at security in select airports. The Breeze Through Security app is downloadable from the App Store, Google Play and Blackberry App World.
