CATSA on Facebook
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), established in 2002, is a Crown corporation responsible for:
- Pre-board screening – the screening of passengers, their carry-on baggage and their personal belongings;
- Hold-baggage screening – the screening of checked baggage;
- Non-passenger screening – the screening of non-passengers on a random basis; and
- Restricted Area Identity Card – the administration of access control to airport restricted areas through biometric identifiers.
CATSA’s Facebook accounts are another means of interacting with the organization and provide an opportunity to learn about navigating the security screening process more quickly and easily. We look forward to sharing information with air travellers and encourage visits to our website for more detailed information.
Links to Other Websites
The CATSA Facebook accounts may post links to websites that are not the CATSA website or a Government of Canada website. These links are provided solely for the convenience of the users. CATSA is not responsible for the accuracy, currency or reliability of the content. CATSA is not responsible for the information found through these links, nor does it endorse the sites and their content.
The number of posts will vary. Posts will be made during regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm EST/EDT.
Because Facebook servers are managed by a third party, CATSA Facebook updates are also subject to downtime that may be out of CATSA‘s control. As such, we accept no responsibility for the Facebook network becoming unresponsive or unavailable.
Use of “Like” and “Share”
CATSA’s Facebook accounts are open to the public, so anyone with Internet access can view the content posted. Facebook users can also “like” the CATSA accounts. In doing so, they allow CATSA posts and updates to appear in their “newsfeed”.
CATSA will not “like” any individuals or businesses that proactively “like” our account.
CATSA may “like” or share relevant material posted by the Government of Canada and/or other organizations determined to be relevant to our audiences and of significant value. This may include articles, cross-links, research findings, statistics and events.
At this time, CATSA’s “Liked Pages” only include other Government of Canada institutions and industry organizations that we believe are relevant to the mandate of our work. This could include following the Facebook accounts of industry stakeholders, associations and other governmental agencies.
The appearance of any particular Page as a “favourite” of CATSA does not imply endorsement, nor does CATSA being the “favourite” of any particular Page or user.
Direct Messages and Wall Comments
Feedback and interaction are encouraged. All wall comments and direct messages will be read and any emerging themes or helpful suggestions will be passed to the relevant CATSA contact. While we are not able to reply to all messages, they will be reviewed individually and responded to when appropriate.
If a comment or question is of significant business value and/or requires a detailed response, we may distribute the information through other internal or external channels such as briefing material, our website or other social media accounts. We will watch for emerging themes and helpful suggestions and look forward to this potential interaction
Media is asked to send questions to CATSA’s spokesperson (613-998-4527 or firstname.lastname@example.org). We will not respond to media questions on Facebook.
CATSA cannot engage in partisan politics or answer questions that contravene Commenting Policy.
As a third-party service provider, Facebook is not bound by Government of Canada policies for web accessibility.
The Government of Canada is committed to achieving a high standard of accessibility and is working to address issues with third-party service provider platforms. For more information on accessibility and Facebook please visit http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=440.
CATSA respects Canada’s Official Languages Act and, as such, is committed to ensuring information is available in both French and English, of equal quality. CATSA’s posts are available in both official languages. Simply view the appropriate CATSA Facebook account: in English on CATSA or in French on ACSTA.
Through the very nature of the social media forum, content will vary between the English and French Facebook accounts. Any post or sharing from CATSA will be made in both official languages when it concerns both English and French communities. Responses to direct messages and posts will be made in the official language of origin.
Users should be aware that some links direct users to the sites of organizations or other entities that are not subject to the Official Languages Act. These sources are only available in the language in which they are written.
Other CATSA Staff or Representatives Posting
Some CATSA staff or CATSA representatives, including screening officers, post under their own names or pseudonyms. Despite their professional affiliation with CATSA, their posts do not represent the official position of CATSA, and should be considered the product of each individual as a private citizen.
CATSA’s Facebook accounts are not Government of Canada websites. Users of Facebook are encouraged to read Facebook’s Terms and Policies.
