CATSA Plus: High-performance screening line tested at Montréal-Trudeau
Montréal, September 13, 2016 – The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is testing a new pre-board screening line that is expected to transform the passenger experience at airport security. The new line is part of a CATSA Plus concept that involves bringing together several equipment and process innovations that CATSA has successfully trialed over the past few years to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its screening operations. The “plus” is a more pleasant and seamless passage through the checkpoint for air travellers.

The new line being trialed at Montréal-Trudeau’s screening checkpoint “A” (Domestic/International) includes features such as motorized rollers, a remote X-ray viewing room, an automatic bin return system, and improved divest and repack stations for passengers.
CATSA Plus is adaptable to different airport environments. Elements can be added or removed depending on checkpoint size, space and passenger volumes. Montréal-Trudeau was selected for the trial because checkpoint “A” offers adequate space to install a full line with all the main features.

The trial will determine the impact on screening line performance and efficiency and evaluate the passenger experience. The results will allow CATSA to make any refinements required before the first full deployment in Canada of a complete CATSA Plus checkpoint in the new International Terminal at Calgary International Airport at the end of October.

CATSA is a Crown corporation responsible for:
• Pre-board screening – the screening of passengers, their carry-on baggage and their personal belongings;
• Hold-baggage screening – the screening of checked baggage;
• Non-passenger screening – the random screening of non-passengers; and
